Carry on! More Cargo, that is! This week, we have 2 perfectly stylee pairs of gray cargo pants for you. These pants were found at the South Dakota Avenue branch of Goodwill in NE DC. With Fall just around the corner (although it’s hard to imagine when it’s 92 degrees today), the basic, solid cargo pant can help your cute sparkly tank tops go from Summer to Fall. They replace the shorts you have been wearing with something full length. Add a cardigan, and you’re outtie.
The first pair is by Urban Outfitters, Size 4. They have a drawstring waist and also a button closure, and they have ruching at the ankles. I love this particular detail. You can ruch it tight or ruch it loose for 2 different looks, and you can adjust them to your shoe’s heel height, too. Ingenious!

The second pair is by Old Navy, Size 4 as well. (Larger size 4.) They are slightly darker gray than the first pair, and they are more traditional in terms of styling. Cargo pockets where you would expect them, low-rise cut, and boot cut legs. The fabric is very soft and has some stretch. Voila:

Get a pair of these season-stretchers while it’s still 9000 degrees out. It’s DC: You know it will be 40 degrees in no time. Be prepared.

Hello first-day-back-to-school Monday.
I hope you had a great weekend, were able to relax and enjoy sunshine wherever you are. We had a gorgeous sunny weekend here in DC so we decided on a spontaneous crab lunch trip to Annapolis. Maryland boasts some of the most delicious crabs. Thanks Ally and Jane for tips on how to get rid of crab smelling hands. Lemons did the trick.
Other highlights from our weekend included:
- A tweet up organized by beautiful Maryam from Marrakesh. It was awesome to finally meet Maryam. She is even lovelier in person. The tweet up, was at charming Vinoteca (highly recommend the tamari “reserve”from mendoza, argentina) and was a cheerful gathering of wonderful peeps. A shout out to Christie, Andrea, Brandie, Nole, Kaydee and Bill. It was a pleasure to connect with you all.

- And shopping for goodies from the Takoma Park farmers market. I really look forward to farmer’s market on weekends to score fresh treats. This weekend I put together a small spread of kalamata olive bread, strawberry-peach jam and chevre goat cheese, and bellinis. Perfect outdoor picnic.

- I also found these cute lavender sachets at the market for my lingerie drawer. These little sachets are easy to make using left-over fabric and filled with lavender (or other potpourri) would make great hostess gifts.

Oh and I realized I hadnt shared my new lamp (Cyan via GiltGroupe) with you. Isnt she pretty? Initially, I wanted her in our masterbed room, but I think she feels more at home in the dining room, dont you?
Have a happy week ahead.
ps: giveaway winner – coming up next.

If you live anywhere remotely above a rock than I can bet you’ve heard of Fashion’s Night Out. In the unlikely event that you haven’t already heard, Fashion’s Night Out—that worldwide, late-night, people-spilling-into-the-streets shopping extravaganza—is back after a smashing success last year. And it’s a global event! So, along with with the indispensable spending, sipping and socializing on the big day (September 10) in New York City, there will be more spending, sipping and socializing in cities across the globe. That includes DC.
For months now, retailers all across Georgetown have been cooking up ideas for their stores for the second-annual Fashion’s Night Out. Will they host a cocktail hour? Throw a ranging bash? Fill their four walls with celebrities? It’s an endless list, but DistrictCut.com has the inside scoop on what to do, where to be, and what to buy on the night of September 10. Starting with Georgetown Optician. I know, right—Georgetown Optician? But seriously, they will be hosting an Oliver Peoples trunk show with frames and sunglasses from their latest collection. Drinks and refreshments included. Georgetown Optician – 1307 Wisconsin Avenue, Washington, DC 20007.
Then there is Lacoste, which is sure to be a fun event. While enjoying refreshments and previews of what’s new for fall, they will be hosting a Nintendo Wii tournament with the chance to win prizes. The game of choice? Tennis, obviously. Better head to the court now. Lacoste – 3146 M Street, Washington, DC 20007.
Georgetown Cupcake will be giving away free Fashion’s Night Out cupcakes all day while it will be an all-out garden party at Betsey Johnson with wine tasting by Potomac Wine and Spirits and FNO “Betsey” cupcakes by Baked and Wired.
Of course, the event to see and be seen is happening at Reiss. But more on that later.
After work, I often find myself facing the same moral dilemma- do I join my friends for happy hour or do I go home and spend time with my pooch, Piper. After being gone for 8 hours, I feel just terrible about leaving him for another 2 or 3. Well, thank goodness Joe’s Bar has [...]
Being organized is an essential part of life. However, organization is a habit that is not typically taught in school. Children need to know the basics of organization in order to be prepared for the school year. By taking a little extra time to implement a few simple organizing systems, your children [...]
Having read Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking and Outliers: The Story of Success, I was curious to read Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers: The Story of Success to discover how it compared to his previous books, the first of which I enjoyed the second not so much. I must say that similar to his other [...]
