A guy helping a girl fix her flat tire before the start of the critical mass. Dupont Circle, Washington, DC.
This week we start with the familiar
- A letter writer asks why the police can't stop cyclists who flout traffic laws near the East Falls Church Metro. (tip: Froggie)
- A cyclist was hit by a cab last night (or the cab was hit by the bike, it's disputed) during the Critical Mass ride. This was in Dupont Circle and reportedly it was intentional.
- Jay Roberts wrote about his bike-bike crash that became a news story last month. "I inserted myself in the commentary on this in a few places to humbly
point out that, whatever the facts may be about aggressive scofflaw
cyclists, my accident didn't fall into that pattern, both by my
recollection and Park Police report...There is still no word on the other rider, who was still in the ICU 4 or
5 days after the accident. This distresses me and I'm hoping for a
full and rapid recovery for him so that he may move on as well." - More Sharrows coming to Arlington; specifically
-
- 2nd St S between Court House Rd and S Highland St
- N Sycamore St between 24th St N and 26th St N
- DC Mud covers the Maryland half of the Anacostia Trail extension. It's basically a rehash of this press release, repeating the errors within it and coming up with some of its own. (The trail is on the east side, not the west; and this section will not, by itself
create a connection because it will dead-end at the DC line until DC
can get their half done; and the trail isn't just for cyclists) - Tommy Wells is glad to see new bike racks on Mass Ave.
- The new Metro In-station maps now show bike lanes.
- A pedestrian was hit and badly injured at M and South Capitol, this after a pedestrian was killed at M and 4th SW earlier in the year. But we wouldn't want to change the street because it might slow down traffic. The driver in this case left the scene unaware he'd hit anyone, but returned when he realized he had. Charges are pending.
- Watkins Mill Extended, a six-lane highway that will eventually connect both ends of Watkins Mill Road with a bridge over I-270 will include a bike side path.
- View the draft of the Western Baltimore County Pedestrian and Bicycle Access Plan and Richard Layman's statewide addendum
- Biketastic, an art show off of the W&OD trail, raised money for bikes for the world.
- Metro wants apps, including ones that help integrate trails with transit.
